Revolutionizing Tinnitus Treatment

SoundCure is focused on developing and commercializing a novel acoustic therapy for the treatment and suppression of tinnitus (ringing in the ear). The company will partner with audiologists, MD's and patient advocacy groups, and leverage innovative web-based technologies to treat patients and provide tinnitus solutions.

Tinnitus is a debilitating disease that affects an estimated 262 million people worldwide. It is believed that over 17% of the general population suffers from tinnitus and based on a recent report from the Department of Veterans Affairs, tinnitus is now the #1 disability affecting returning troops. While tinnitus can affect anyone, it is more common with increasing age and occurs at higher rates with individuals who work in noisy environments. SoundCure was formed by Allied Minds based on technology first pioneered by researchers at UC Irvine who discovered a relation between certain tonal algorithms and specific therapeutic effects.

About Tinnitus

Frequently patients will be told that they “just have to live with” tinnitus, or “nothing can be done”. However, tinnitus can almost always be treated. Symptoms of tinnitus can be improved, and patients can benefit from active care.

Tinnitus is a condition in which a person perceives sound that is not actually present in the environment. It is often described as "ringing in the ears" but can include virtually any type of sound including whooshing, hissing, or whistling.

There are many possible causes for tinnitus but most cases are related to damage to the auditory system. This may or may not include subjective hearing loss. Often a single event or a condition unrelated to the hearing system may seem to trigger tinnitus. An audiologist is necessary to evaluate your tinnitus and can determine if a treatable medical condition exists or if further evaluation from an ENT is necessary. Your audiologist can determine the possible source of your tinnitus and what course of treatment is most appropriate, if any.

SoundCure believes that tinnitus can almost always be treated and its symptoms improved in important ways.

Sound therapy is an effective tool in the treatment of tinnitus, but until now has not allowed for customization to each patient or the customization was part of a rigid, complex approach. SoundCure is changing that with Serenade, a simple, flexible, sound therapy system that is customized specifically to your tinnitus.
